Valentine’s Day School Party

Well, it’s that time again – the night before Cali’s Valentine’s Party for her class at school. This year, however, I wasn’t running around buying last minute craft supplies to make homemade valentines.

No, I saw a cute post on inch mark blog, (the matchbook valentine idea), but there’s no way I could bring myself to put edible items in a former box where matches use to sleep. Ewww. I thought about how I could use clean unused boxes, but … trail off on that idea… to much work all around, probably.

So, I thought of just doing a cute paper wrap around a box. I think I already had Sweetheart conversation hearts in mind as the box, as Cali wanted to give those out this year – and we should have bought them that day we were cruisin’ through the valentine candy isle at Target…

Because tonight I found chocolate convo hearts, but that was a no-go with my 1st grader. On to store #2. I found Brach’s convo hearts and ended up buying a case of those (it was all sealed and unopened and… what the hey.) But after realizing when I got home, they were made in Argentina (yuck) – I went to our local Smith’s (didn’t park my car there) and bought 2 of the 4 or 5 maybe? packs of Laffy Taffy valentines that were left. No convo hearts of the other brand that I could see. Picked. Over.

Rick thought Argentina wasn’t unsafe, so I let Cali decide what to give out. She did the Argentina variety.

But, not to disappoint my true inner crafty demon (of the valentine variety), I made ‘the box’ – the box to receive the valentines from Cali’s classmates. I felt like she should have a hand in it, and she was going to, but after all was said and done, I did it all. Cali didn’t really care (lucky for me) and she liked what I designed.

So, with lace left over that was really purchased for ‘the box’ I tied a piece around each box of convo hearts. Pink for the girls and white for the boys. And a few red furry yarn that I already had, as needed. Cali wrote the ‘to: from:’

What comes over me with Valentine’s !?!
(Carice – beware of Mom, come your February school days.)

Happy Valentine’s Day ~
