♨New Food Friday-take three
If you want to be like Rick (cuz he’s fancy!) you would need to pronounce our 3rd New Food pick like this: Asss•per•a•gus. Either way you want to say it, I don’t think this food is gonna make on the grocery list anytime soon :/
Rick has asparagus often through work luncheons and I’m pretty sure I’ve had it before. My first taste tonight was a bitter one, though. The next one was better tasting. Asparagus tastes a little green beanish (is that a word!?) to me, but with a weed tasting-twist. (now, now, you know I’ve never eaten a real weed.) Rick describes it as a cross between broccoli and green beans.
Cali thought she liked the first taste, but not really anymore after that.
Carice gave the spear a toss away from her at first, but got in a mind set it was a green bean and warmed up a bit to it to have a taste. And actually had more than one. Some of the spears were kind of hard to her to bite off, I think I over cooked it. She just wanted to do some silly pictures tonight ☺
Soo.. not a hugely successful New Food Friday, but worthy of another go maybe someday. And I probably need to learn how to cook it just right.
We decided to go out for Blizzards at Dairy Queen after dinner to celebrate Cali’s wonderful report card.
They tasted a lot better than Asssperagus.
Except the Blizzards made us sick… :-) tee hee
on February 6th, 2009 at 9:30 pmYou didn’t eat the asparagus plain, did you? You gotta have it roasted with olive oil and lots of shaved parmesan cheese or drizzled with hollandaise sauce. Although, it’s not up there on the list of our favorite vegetables, either.
on February 7th, 2009 at 1:38 amI’m with the Duncans. Much better if you dress it up a bit. I love brussel sprouts myself.
on February 7th, 2009 at 8:23 pmI think my mother had us three kids “hypnotized” at a young age to be asparagus loving freaks, because I, like Rick love Asss-per-a–gus too, and I do pronounce it fancy like also! If it was tough or hard still it probably wasn’t cooked long enough. It actually takes quite a while to boil or steam. Butter, salt and pepper are my fav. toppings. You gotta give it one more try! (Tyson would be on your side with this veggie, he is not a fan!)
